Highlights from the ID@Xbox Event

A slew of new and upcoming indie games was revealed Wednesday during the latest [email protected] event, which was streamed on the Twitch Xbox Channel on the 16th. The roster included a number of impressive titles, and there was a healthy variety of game types showcased. There were also some pleasant surprises.

One of the more highly anticipated games featured was the newly released Tunic. This action-adventure Zelda-like game has been announced – rather unexpectedly – as a day one Game Pass title and could be one of this year’s biggest sleeper hits.

Another game featured during the stream was Voidtrain, a game that promises a completely new take on the survival game, with first-person exploration in a world that is as stunning as it is unique. Though the exact release date has not been determined, Voidtrain will be coming to Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2022.

Coming to Xbox sometime in the second quarter of this year, Trek to Yomi is a side-scrolling hack and slash samurai game with a black and white visual style that evokes such classic cinema classics as Rashomon and Seven Samurai.

One of the bigger surprises revealed at the event was Wrestle Quest – the latest, and probably only, wrestling-themed role playing game. The game features top down exploration and turn-based team combat – or rather, matches – with a pixel art graphical style. Wrestle Quest was likely the highlight of the stream for many.

It was quite a lineup for the first [email protected] show of 2022, and there was plenty to get Xbox gamers excited for the coming year in games. While indie-developed games often get overshadowed by the big AAA titles, it is nice to see them get a piece of the limelight with events like these.
