Gamescom 2020 to happen in August with all-digital streams and online media

Details have finally been confirmed for this year’s gamescom event which will be held completely online due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

The all-digital event will run from August 27th through to August 30th and will consist of online broadcasts and a digital hub featuring all of the gaming news being broken over the four days.

Of note is the Opening Night Live with Geoff Keighley gaming show which will stream on the 27th and the new Awesome Indies and Daily Show shows which will be used as tools to air interviews, promotions, and new stories.

The devcom conference, which usually runs alongside gamescom, will also be completely digital this year and will run from August 17th to the 30th. Details have still to be finalized for devcom but the official press release states that it will feature “broad program ready for trade visitors with lots of talks and plenty of matchmaking.”

Numerous gaming and technology events have made the shift to digital this year in response to the pandemic with some, such as E3, being cancelled altogether while others, like EVO, being forced to dramatically change their program.

Are you disappointed by the shift to digital or do you prefer it? Share your thoughts with the community in the comments below and then follow us on Pinterest for more gaming content.
