Azure Backup now available in more regions in the United States and Brazil

Microsoft’s Azure Blog notes that Azure Backup service supports more regions in the United States and Brazil to meet the ever-growing demand of Windows customers. Azure Backup adds 5 new regions; Azure Backup is ready to use in 17 regions worldwide. In the above picture, the green dots indicate the new regions where Azure Backup is available, while the white dots indicate where Azure Backup is already available. The white dots indicate where Azure Backup is already used (Australia East, Australia Southeast, East Asia, East US, Japan East, Japan West, North Europe, Southeast Asia, West Europe, West US, North East China, East China).

As you can see below, you can choose your preferred region to store your backup data when you set up your Azure Backup vault.

According to the Azure Blog, the five new regions now support the following features of the Azure Backup service:

  • “Backup the files and folders from Windows Servers and Windows Clients”
  • “Seamlessly integrate with System Center Data Protection Manager to backup all the critical applications including SharePoint, Exchange & SQL; Files and Folders, Windows Servers, Windows Clients, System State and BMR”
  • “Backup of Azure IaaS VMs (preview)”
  • “Encrypts the backup data using AES256 before sending the data to Azure datacenter over https link in order to ensure security”
  • “Compresses the backup data before sending the data to Azure to provide efficient utilization of bandwidth and Azure storage”
  • “Provides the choice of Locally Redundant Storage (LRS) and Geographically Redundant Storage (GRS) to store the backup data”
