Xbox One coming to China in September, China Telecom gets exclusive contract

Microsoft’s gaming console, Xbox One, will arrive in China — among several other nations including Japan and India — this September. China Telecom — which is China’s third largest telecommunications company will start selling the console in the nation through an exclusive contract.

China is a very big market for anything technology. Last year, the country lifted a 13-year ban on video game consoles. The Xbox One is set to become the first gaming console to be released in the nation, since the revision in the laws. The local authority had banned video gaming on grounds of its adverse effects on mental health.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it will launch the Xbox One console in China in partnership with BesTV New Media. In China Telecom’s statement, BesTV Media also said that it is looking forward to modernizing the traditional gaming experience in China, and create a gaming platform to help improve and bring videos, games, education, and health systems into the cloud.
