Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 see slight increase in their market share, as Windows XP suffers a drop

Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 are now running on 13.37% of computers around the world, according to the latest data by Net Applications. The month of August has ended, and as usually the ever so reliable folks from Net Market Share have evaluated the performance of various operating systems.

Starting with the current operating system, Windows 8.1 which had 6.56% of market share at the end of July, bumped up its number to 7.09% according to the latest data. Windows 8 has also shown some improvements, surging its number to 6.28% from the 5.92% it had a month earlier.

Recently HP ditched Windows 8 computers again in favor of selling Windows 7-powered machines.

Looking at the other side of the pond, Linux holds 1.67% market share, while Mac OS X10.9 now has 4.29 percent share, a little increment from a month earlier. Are you happy with Windows 8 and 8.1’s improving market share? Let us know in the comments below.
