HP ditches Windows 8 again, urges users to get Windows 7 laptops and desktops instead

Microsoft may be working on the next iteration of Windows, codename Threshold (Windows 9), but the company is having hard time convincing computer makers to put the latest version of Windows on their laptops and desktops. It’s been two years since Windows 8 came out and the company has since released Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update. However, HP still finds “Windows 7-powered laptop” tag as the top selling factor.

The company has sent out an email newsletter in which it touts the availability of the 5 year old desktop operating system. “Windows 7 PCs on sale, just in time for school,” the company writes, hoping to stir your excitement level. Further in the email, HP announces that over a dozen of Windows 7-powered laptops and desktops are available through its website.

This isn’t the first time HP has publicly ditched Windows 8 operating system in favor of Windows 7. Earlier this year, right after the holiday season, the company had quietly plucked away all the Windows 8-powered machines entries from the top few pages on its website.

The computer manufacturer HP is not the only PC maker which has done such thing in recent times. Dell too has preferred to sell PCs running Windows 7 over other operating systems.

As of last month’s stats from Net Applications, Windows 7 accounts for about 50% of all computers running in the world. Which is perhaps the reason why Microsoft is molding the next version of Windows, codename Threshold, to look and work a lot like Windows 7. It should also be pointed out that computer manufacturer won’t be able to sell Windows 7-powered machines come November 2014, as mentioned in its policy.
