Sony's playstation 4 outpaces microsoft's xbox one for the eighth straight month

Microsoft’s recent $100 cut on Xbox One has bolstered the gaming console’s sales, but it still couldn’t manage to outpace rival’s PlayStation 4 numbers, according to the latest data from NPD.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 has remained as the top selling gaming console in the United States for the eighth straight month. “PlayStation 4 was number one in hardware sales for the eighth consecutive month and remains the cumulative leader for next generation game consoles.” wrote  Guy Longworth, PlayStation Marketings senior vice president in a statement.. “For the third consecutive month, PlayStation was number one in combined home console hardware sales (PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3),” he added.

Sony has managed to leverage on both Madden NFL 15 and Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition gaming titles. And its first-party title The Last of US Remastered was also the “top selling first-party title in August”. Do note that NPD’s data has only considered physical retail releases.

When compared to last generation consoles, the data suggests that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales are up by over 70 percent. Microsoft would hope to see the sales numbers of Xbox One go up this month, as the gaming console will start selling in over 2 dozen markets later this month.
