Sea of Thieves’ Season Three ships today with epic crossover with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean

Sea of Thieves is getting a major update with the arrival of Season Three, which introduces an exciting crossover with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise. After installing the update, players will get to experience a new story campaign named A Pirate’s Life, which will feature familiar Pirates of the Caribbean characters including Jack Sparrow himself.

“At the heart of Season Three is Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life – a collection of five carefully crafted Tall Tales forming an original story where Jack Sparrow stars alongside our pirate crews. Players will journey to strange, ethereal realms and dive deep below the waves on their quest to defeat the nefarious Davy Jones, who has pursued Jack to the Sea of Thieves and threatens to destroy the pirate life unless his schemes can be stopped,” explained Joe Neate, Executive Producer at Rare.

The game’s Season Three also introduces new enemies including sirens, pirate phantoms, and ocean crawlers that should make your adventures on the seas more perilous than ever. There are also vast new locations to discover, as well as plenty of cosmetics rewards to unlock during this new season. Today’s update is definitely the biggest content update Rare’s pirate game received since launch, and it’s now free to download on Xbox consoles, Windows 10, Xbox Game Pass, and Steam.

It’s great to see a studio like Rare team up with Disney for this cool crossover event, and the Microsoft Flight Simulator team will soon follow up with a free Top Gun: Maverick expansion that will launch alongside the new Top Gun: Maverick movie in November. Developer Asobo Studios has teamed up with Paramount Pictures to craft this free expansion, which will let players experience what it’s like to be a U.S. Navy Top Gun.
