In celebration of the game’s first anniversary, the aptly named Sea of Thieves: Anniversary Edition is now available to buy, download, and play on Microsoft’s family of Xbox One consoles and on Windows 10 devices.
Here’s the official list of content included in the Anniversary Edition in addition to the Sea of Thieves base game:
- Immersive new story experience in Tall Tales – Shores of Gold
- Dedicated new mode for competitive play in The Arena
- New fishing, hunting and cooking capabilities
- New multi-functional ship-mounted harpoon
- More Trading Companies and voyage types
- Skeleton Ships and Cursed Cannonballs
- Megalodon enemies and loot drops for creatures
- An expanded world with volcanic natural hazards
- The Anniversary Edition also includes the free Sea Dog Pack
While that does look like a lot of content, it’s important to point out that almost all of it is available as part of a massive free update rolling out this week to the regular version of Sea of Thieves. The only genuinely extra bit of content with this release is the Sea Dog Pack which features a mix of in-game cosmetics and currency.
The Sea of Thieves: Anniversary Edition may not be that enticing for current owners of the title but for new players, this could well be the encouragement they need to dive in.
Sea of Thieves is an online open-world video game set upon the high seas. It features crossplay and cross-save between the Xbox One and Windows 10 versions and is also available to play in full as part of Xbox Game Pass.
