Microsoft’s touch-friendly Office Preview apps are broken for some on Windows 10

Microsoft's touch-friendly Office Preview apps are broken for some on Windows 10

Coming into the Windows 10 Technical Preview, we knew there would be bugs, glitches, and technical difficulties, so we set our expectations accordingly. The same expectations were set for the new Windows Store Beta and the Touch Office Preview, but we noticed something odd.

Last week, the Touch Office apps stopped working for me. Upon launching Word, PowerPoint, or Excel Preview, an error would pop up saying that the apps can’t open. I figured it was another one of the many seemingly isolated issues to hit my Windows 10-powered Surface Pro 2. But it seems the issue is more widespread than I initially thought as some, but not all WinBeta staff members are facing the issue as well.

There are no solid answers as to why this is occurring, or why the apps sometimes launch in a “view only” mode. Fixing the issue may require uninstalling and reinstalling the apps. Let us know in the comments below if your Touch Office apps are working correctly or if you are experiencing the same issue. Microsoft’s support forums are also riddled with complaints about the same issue. We will update this story once an answer is found.
