Microsoft’s next gen Xbox Series X console won the Most Wanted Tech award at gamescom 2020

Earlier this week, the winners of the various gamescom 2020 awards were announced and it was a pretty good time for Microsoft and its Xbox brand.

The biggest win by far was the upcoming Xbox Series X console which scored the Most Wanted Hardware/Tech award. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X was up against the company’s own Xbox cloud gaming service and Intellivision Amico, a new video game console that’s set to launch in 2021 with an Android/Linux-based operating system and a library of games that are 100% family friendly.

The PlayStation 5 console, which is due out around the same time as the Xbox Series X, was noticeably absent from the short list of nominees.

It’s unclear how gamescom 2020 awards nominations and winners are selected but a win is a win and awards like this can factor into what consoles casual gamers without any brand loyalty choose to buy. We can likely expect Microsoft to mention this win numerous times in the coming months.

Other noticeable wins include Cyberpunk 2077 in the Best PC Game, Best Role-Playing Game, Best of gamescom, gamescom “Most Wanted” Consumer Award, and Best Sony Playstation Game categories, Tell Me Why for Best Microsoft Xbox Game, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 for Best Sports Game, and Borderlands 3 for Best Ongoing Game. The full list of winners can be found here.
