Microsoft has announced that the doors for developers to submit their Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” apps to the Marketplace is now open. Microsoft had stated back in July that the company would be enabling developers to submit their apps to the Windows Phone Marketplace in August. Looks like Microsoft is sticking to its promises.
Microsoft’s Senior Director of Windows Phone product management, Todd Brix, stated in a blog post, “We noted last month that App Hub would begin accepting Mango apps in late August. The infrastructure for accepting your Mango apps is coming online as we speak! Some of you may already be seeing new content as we conduct a final round of tests. Stay tuned for a more detailed overview of the Mango app submission process within the next 24 hours.”
Microsoft has also released the Windows Phone Software Development Kit (SDK) 7.1 Release Candidate to go along with this announcement. This updated SDK provides over 1500 new APIs.
“The Windows Phone Software Development Kit (SDK) 7.1 provides you with all of the tools that you need to develop applications and games for both Windows Phone 7.0 and Windows Phone 7.5 devices. This download is the Release Candidate (RC) and provides a ‘Go Live’ license that enables you to develop and publish applications to the Windows Phone Marketplace,” Microsoft states.
The much anticipated Mango update to the Windows Phone 7 operating system was apparently leaked not that long ago. This highly anticipated update offers over 100 new features and is Microsoft’s hope to turn the tides on its ill-fated Windows Phone platform.
