Microsoft announced this week that their Microsoft Teams collaboration tool now boasts over 250 million active monthly users across all supported platforms.
The stat was dropped during the company’s Q4 FY21 earnings announcement and is a noticeable improvement from the 145 million daily active users reported back in April. While the shift to monthly users over daily users makes it hard to discern growth specifics, the massive leap of 105 million users makes it clear that Microsoft Teams usage is still increasing at a rather fast pace.
As part of the earnings call (via ZDNet), Microsoft revealed some more details about how Teams is being used and who is using it. Apparently around 80 million users are using Microsoft Teams on their phone throughout the month while 124 organizations now have over 100,000 users who use the service for communicating and collaboration.
3,000 organizations boast over 10,000 users on the platform.
Part of the reason for Microsoft Teams’ sudden growth is due in large part to the ongoing global pandemic which has forced numerous companies and groups to work remotely. Microsoft has also made a number of Microsoft Teams features available for free over the past year which has made the service significantly more approachable to the non-corporate individual who had been curious about Teams but were unable to use it until now.
The real test for Microsoft Teams will be over the next year or two as many workers begin to transition back to working in a traditional in-person workspace.
