Microsoft releases the recovery tool to revert Windows 10 back to Windows Phone 8.1

Windows 10 for phones is finally here, although only for a select number of Lumia devices currently, we expect more devices to be added over time. So those with supported devices, enjoy the Windows 10 exclusivity while you can!

It’s not going to be a smooth ride though as Microsoft has made it abundantly clear that the preview is in its very early stages, in fact, according to the software giant, it is the earliest preview they’ve done, ever. Should the excitement subside and the bugs start getting to your nerves, Microsoft has released the Windows Mobile Recovery Tool that will allow Windows 10 for phones users to go back to the trusty, reliable, and stable Windows Phone 8.1.

An unfortunate side-effect of the tool is that is not a true rollback solution as previously expected, meaning it will completely format your device, and you will lose all of your personal information on the device. So we highly recommend you back up all that is important to a MicroSD card or OneDrive before upgrading to Windows 10.

You can download the Windows Mobile Recovery Tool from Microsoft over at the download link below. We hope you won’t have to use it, but it’s good that it’s there should you need it.
