Microsoft Pix And Microsoft Solitaire Collection Makes The New York Times’ Best Apps Of 2016 List – onmsft.com

With the end of the year just a few days away, now is the perfect time to look back at the list of apps which have captivated the attention of the world in 2016. While most casual smartphone users may be more familiar with apps such as Pokemon Go, or Super Mario Run, New York Times writer Kit Eaton has examined some other outstanding apps of 2016, and has placed two Microsoft apps on his list.

Topping Kit Eaton’s list is PIX, which is the iOS-only Microsoft camera app that helps you take better photos with your phone without any extra effort. The app lets you enjoy life’s moments instead of struggling to capture them, and even lets you add live frames to your images. Here is how Kit Eaton described the app:

Microsoft’s Pix brings artificial intelligence to the smartphone camera. The app is essentially a smart camera assistant. It can adjust different camera parameters while shooting a quick burst of photos, and then choose the best result to keep. In addition, for users with shaky hands, there’s automatic image stabilization when using Pix to shoot video. Video can also be saved at a different speed than it was recorded.

Also on Eaton’s list is Microsoft Solitaire Collection. As you may very well know, the classic Windows game is available on modern Windows 10 devices as a UWP app, and even recently made it’s way to Android, and iOS. Like our Brad Stephenson covered, you even can earn Xbox Live achievements in this app, which is great for those who like upping their gamerscore. While the app does have paid features, Kit Eaton kept his description short and simple:

Who can resist this PC gaming classic? Nowall sorts of variations can be played on iOS and Android. This app will eat away spare minutes, and it’s free.
