Microsoft Entra is Microsoft’s new product family, focused on identity and access capabilities

Microsoft has just announced the launch of Entra, the latest entry to its family of products. Entra brings together Microsoft’s identity and access capabilities in one place. It includes Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), as well as Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management (CIEM) and decentralized identity.

Per Microsoft, Entra comes at a time when there’s a need for trust in a hyperconnected world. The company sees that it is important to help address attack surfaces and vulnerabilities as more organizations are advancing their digital activities. It’s not always a straightforward task to do this, so Entra helps fill the gap in these core ways:

• Protect access to any app or resource for any user.
• Secure and verify every identity across hybrid and multicloud environments.
• Discover and govern permissions in multicloud environments.
• Simplify the user experience with real-time intelligent access decisions.

As pointed out by Mary Jo Foley, Entra will help provide “identity and access management, cloud infrastructure management, as well as identity verification,” Entra works with most clouds, including Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, and other Microsoft apps and websites.
