In April, Microsoft announced that it would start rolling out a new option for joining Teams meetings with a digital code at some point in May. According to a new report from Petri, the company is delaying the release of this feature indefinitely, and it’s no longer coming this Summer.
The Redmond gaint has posted an update on the Microsoft 365 Admin center earlier this month to indicate that the team is no longer moving forward with the release at this point, and it will communicate a new timeline in the future. “At this time we will not be moving forward with rolling out the feature as outlined. We are evaluating changes based on feedback and will announce our new plan via Message center when we are ready proceed,” the company explained.
There’s no further indication as to when the feature will be available for Teams users and whether it will arrive this year as planned. As of now, the firm has not updated the Microsoft 365 roadmap to reflect the delay, and it still states that the feature will be available in June.
Microsoft Teams already allows organizers to share a meeting link with participants or inviting them directly, but the new feature in the app will bring the ability to join a meeting by entering a meeting ID. This update will provide an additional way for attendees to join a virtual meeting in scenarios when the meeting link is not avaialble. This option will be avaialble across Microsoft Teams desktop, mobile, and web clients.
This capability is already available on other platforms (including Zoom) for a while now, so it remains to be seen when Microsoft actually plans to deliver this update. In case you missed it, Microsoft has also delayed the rollout of Shared Channels in Teams earlier this year, and this update is now slated for a release in November 2021.
