Microsoft contributing $2.5 million in cash, tech, and services to support Hurricane Harvey relief efforts

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey on Monday, Microsoft revealed they would be providing an initial $100,000 grant to the American Red Cross to aid in relief efforts. Late last night, the company penned a blog post about the subject, revealing they would be providing $2.5 million in cash, tech, and services to support Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The blog post was penned by Mary Snapp, Corporate Vice President and Head of Microsoft Philanthropies. Snapp detailed that since the storm hit over the weekend, Microsoft has been “in close contact” with nonprofit partners and organizations who are leading relief efforts, so they could understand their needs.

With that so, Microsoft has decided to contribute $2.5 million in cash, technology, and services to support relief efforts in Texas. Including the initial cash donation to the American Red Cross, the company is hoping that the contribution will help nonprofit and public-sector organizations assist the Texas community in recovery.

Across the country, we watched as Hurricane Harvey hit Texas with devastating force last Friday night. As the crisis continues to unfold, our thoughts are with the millions of people in Houston and throughout the Gulf Coast who are impacted by this disaster, which has been described as unprecedented in scale and scope.

Microsoft employees are also being urged to donate through the employee giving program, and every dollar contributed by Microsoft employees to relief efforts will be matched by Microsoft. So far, Microsoft has already raised $100,000 for the American Red Cross and Team Rubicon via this effort.

In the weeks ahead, Microsoft will be using websites and social media to highlight the need to donate towards relief and recovery efforts. The company has also shared that it remains committed to the communities affected by Hurricane Harvey, and will help the communities across the region to recover and residents to rebuild their lives.

You can donate to the relief efforts yourself by visiting the American Red Cross Website. You also can text HARVEY to 90999 to make $10 donation. Every bit counts in the long road to recovery.
