Today is Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates’ 58th birthday. For those who have forgotten history, Bill Gates co-founded Microsoft alongside Paul Allen back in 1975 and left the CEO position back in January of 2000. In celebration of his 58th birthday today, we are going to go over some cool Bill Gates facts.
Did you know that Bill Gates has no use for money? Microsoft’s co-founder and Chairman Bill Gates mentioned during an interview back in January of this year that he had no use for money. In fact, Gates wants to take the wealth that he has and give it back to the world. Gates is focusing on “getting the resources out to the poorest in the world.”
Bill Gates also hated firing his employees and that was the one thing about his job at Microsoft that he hated the most. Gates admitted that the decision to fire his own employees was the hardest and that he would often believe that the troubled employee was possibly working under a poor manager and would likely be performing better under other circumstances. Gates would hand off the decision to fire employees to other executives to avoid the dilemma.
While Bill Gates may be one of the richest people in the world, but he is also the world’s most generous. Since Bill Gates devotes the majority of his time to his foundation (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation), in an attempt to rid the world of polio and other diseases, and has given more than $28 billion to this cause.
Did you know that his full name is William Henry Gates, III and that he was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. Gates also dated women “occasionally” with varying degrees of success. And one final cool bit of trivia – did you know Bill Gates met the CEO of IBM though his mother?
