Microsoft and National Geographic team up to showcase 4K recording on the Lumia 930

As the Lumia Denim update slowly makes its way to Lumia devices worldwide, we are also getting peeks of what the included features are, and how they work.

Today’s peek comes from Microsoft, with the company showing off one of the biggest new features of Denim; 4K video capture. And what better way to do that than to hand a Lumia to a National Geographic photographer.

Nokia has been collaborating with National Geographic for a while now, starting around the time the Lumia 1020 was first released to put the phone’s imaging prowess to the test, and to prove that a Lumia smartphone can give a thousand dollar DSLR a run for its money. Now, Microsoft has offered Nat Geo a Lumia 930 running the Denim update, allowing it to shoot short 4K video and the result is what you see in the video below.

Shot entirely on the Lumia 930, National Geographic explored Victoria Falls, the largest waterfalls in the world that sit along the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe in Africa. The smartphone manages to capture the magnificence of the falls in great clarity, as well as shots of animals and wildlife even in low-light conditions. Of course it’s not National Geographic until they take a selfie with a cheetah so there’s that too.
