Apiphany for use in Windows Azure

The move to the cloud continues pace and Microsoft continues to invest in Windows Azure. The latest acquisition is the Washington DC-based startup Apiphany, an API management delivery platform. The platform will now be used as an integrated Windows Azure API management service.

Apiphany announced the acquisition in a blog post and the post is understandably upbeat for a company that has only existed for just over a year:

“We’ve been operating as scrappy start-up out of a garage in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington D.C. for a little more than a year. We knew from the beginning that we had to be cloud-first and choose the right platform. In that year we managed to build a product, introduce it to the market, and acquire great customers. It was a lot of work but even more fun! We will surely miss our garage days.”

The post goes on to say: “At the same time we are excited to become a part of Microsoft. We firmly believe that joining this great company will help us to accelerate our vision of democratizing API management and bringing it to millions of customers across the world.”

Steve Martin, General Manager for Windows Azure Business and Marketing, said on the Azure blog: “We look forward to surfacing API management services within Windows Azure and providing our customers with the technology they need to grow their API ecosystem very soon.”
