Recently, a report appeared online that claimed Microsoft is pulling Minecraft Pocket Edition support for Windows phone devices (Windows Phone 8.x and Windows 10 Mobile). This report came from unknown sources at the company. Several people put this down to pure speculation and rumor, dismissing the report entirely. Unfortunately, for fans of the Pocket Edition on Windows phone, you’re out of luck.
Now, the Minecraft Pocket Edition FAQ on the official Minecraft website confirms that no Windows phones will be receiving the 1.0 Ender update for Minecraft Pocket Edition, with the exact wording making it seem unlikely that there will be any further updates at all:
The 1.0 Ender Update will not be available on Windows Phone 8.1 or Windows Phone 10. Every Minecraft platform has different needs and our priority is to focus on long-awaited features for as many players as possible.
This message on the FAQ signals the end for Minecraft Pocket Edition on Windows phones due to low usage of the platform, citing that they’re focused on new features for platforms with “as many players as possible”. If the previous report is correct, the game should remain in the Windows Store in its current state, but will not receive any further updates.
As always, we’ll keep you up-to-date with any further developments.
