Cloud services earn Microsoft $6.3 billion in revenue thanks to Azure growth

Microsoft’s cloud business has seen impressive growth this quarter with its Intelligent Cloud seeing growth of up to 5%, bring its total earnings to $6.3 billion.

Chief executive officer at Microsoft, Satya Nadella praised the service’s growth and revealed that, “Businesses everywhere are using the Microsoft Cloud as their digital platform to drive their ambitious transformation agendas. Businesses are also piloting Windows 10, which will drive deployments beyond 200 million active devices.”

While he obviously wasn’t being literal by describing Intelligent Cloud usage as being “everywhere”, Microsoft’s server products and cloud services saw revenue growth by 10% in constant currency and the company’s Azure revenue grew 140% in constant currency. Azure premium services also grew nearly 3 times year-over-year, which is particularly impressive.

Likewise, Microsoft’s Enterprise Mobility solutions also saw a growth of nearly three times the previous year with over one third of the Fortune 500 now using the services.

Kevin Turner, chief operating officer at Microsoft reflected on their success, “Our commercial business executed well as our sales teams and partners helped customers realize the value of Microsoft’s cloud technologies across Azure, Office 365 and CRM Online.”

Microsoft has seen significant profits in several of its departments this quarter. Their Surface line of products has seen fantastic growth due to the launch of the popular Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 devices and while Windows phones have decreased in popularity, Office 365 continues to do well.
