Bungie to hold special Destiny 2 showcase on August 23 to coincide with Season 18 launch – onmsft.com

Last year on August 24 Bungie hosted a Destiny 2 showcase which included the reveal of The Witch Queen expansion to coincide with the launch of the game’s fifteenth season.

It looks like history is about to repeat itself in 2022 with the announcement of another Destiny 2 showcase to be held almost exactly one year later. Streaming on August 23, this year’s Destiny 2 showcase will match the launch date of Season 18.

Witness what’s next.

As with last year’s showcase, many expect a big announcement – specifically an official reveal for the upcoming Lightfall expansion. While many speculate that Lightfall could bring the closure of the game’s main story arc, Bungie recently stated on its official blog:

Last summer, we outlined our ambition for the next era in Destiny 2 by announcing the full arc, starting with Beyond Light, followed by the Witch Queen and Lightfall. As we began to scale production on the Witch Queen last year, we made the difficult but important decision to move its release to early 2022; we also realized we needed to add an additional unannounced chapter after Lightfall to fully complete our first saga of Destiny.

It seems that the team is committed to doing right by Destiny 2 fans going off those statements. However, one can imagine that the team is anxious to move on to Destiny 3 now that Sony’s acquisition of Bungie is complete.

Stay tuned for more details on where to watch the stream on August 23 as they become available.
