Acer: Microsoft has been ‘considerate’ when it comes to OEM input about Windows 8 – onmsft.com

Acer has made some interesting remarks about Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system, as well as Microsoft’s plans for Windows 8.1. According to Acer executives, Microsoft has become more ‘considerate’ when it comes to input from OEM partners.

“When we were talking to Microsoft, our input to them is balance. The world in the next five years is not going 100 percent to touch. Although touch makes a lot of possibilities for PCs, you need to take care of the rest of the world that doesn’t need touch,” Acer President Jim Wong stated. Wong added that Microsoft has adopted OEM suggestions ‘at a high percentage.’

Microsoft’s upcoming plans for Windows 8 include an update called Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue) as well as small screen tablet devices. Windows boss Tami Reller has admitted that there are some troubles with Windows 8 and the software giant is working to change some of its software features, including the return of the Start button to appeal to those who miss it.

Acer’s CEO Wang is happy that Microsoft is listening to its partners. “In the past we consider they (Microsoft) live in heaven. But now they go down to earth and they start to learn how people living on earth think,” Wang added.

Wong recently mentioned that he has high hopes that Microsoft will become a real challenge in the mobile market space. “Windows for now is still a leader in the productivity field,” Wong explained. However, the reason Microsoft is still behind Google and Apple is due to a lack of apps in the Windows Store.
