It’s now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8.1 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Windows Store, including the top five paid apps and top five free apps. This is yet another post in our feature called “Windows Store Sunday” where we highlight what’s going on with the Windows Store.
As of November 3rd, there are 124,930 apps in the Windows Store, an increase of 1,436 apps in just one week. The top free apps this week includes the official Facebook app, which was released alongside the Windows 8.1 update on October 17th and continues to be the number one free app. Other apps on the top-free list include Netflix and Skype. The top-paid apps pretty much remain the same as Angry Birds Space returns to the top of the paid list.
Adobe rolled out an update to the Adobe Photoshop Express app this week. This app, for those that didn’t know, brings you the power of Photoshop right at your fingertips. The app has now been updated to work on Windows 8.1, along with support for 64bit Windows and ARM compatibility for the Looks Pack and Noise Reduction Pack.
The Yahoo Mail app for Windows 8 and Windows RT received yet another minor update this week and according to the change log on the Windows Store, the update simply features bug fixes.
Corona Labs, the company behind the Corona SDK which can be used to develop apps for numerous platform, is joining forces with Microsoft. This new partnership will enable developers to use the SDK to publish new apps for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. This means we can expect to see more new apps in the Windows Store.
A new rumor surfaced this week suggesting the merger between the Mail, Calendar and Outlook apps for Windows 8.1. Eventually this will mean that the Outlook app, which comes with Windows RT as a desktop app, will have to be made into a Windows Store/Modern/Metro app. By merging the three apps, you can have one unified Outlook app with calendar features. No official details have yet been revealed.
