Delivery optimization is a Windows feature that helps you download your updates quickly and easily. This works by providing updates from sources apart from Microsoft—reducing the bandwidth or time needed to get the updates as a result.

\

It can become a problem, however, if you’re using metered connections. That’s why in some instances it might, in fact, be better to disable the Delivery optimization in your Windows. Let’s learn how.

\

Turn off Delivery optimization through Settings

\

To open the Settings app, head to the Start menu search bar, type in ‘settings,’ and select the best match. Alternatively, press the Windows key + I.

\

Now head to the Update and security section and select Advanced options. Then click on the Delivery Optimization link below.

\

To turn off Delivery optimization, toggle off the “Allow downloads from other PCs” button on your PC. This will then stop your Windows from downloading updates from non-Windows sources.

Disable Delivery optimization through a metered connection

\

When you’re on a metered connection, your operating system disables the delivery optimization automatically. So all you’ve to do then is to enable the Metered connection feature through your Ethernet settings. Do that, and you’ll be able to disable Delivery optimization on your PC easily. Here’s how.

\

    \

  1. Open the Windows Settings.
  2. \

  3. Head to Network & internet section and select the network you’d like to set as a metered connection.
  4. \

  5. Toggle on the button for Metered connection.
  6. \

That’s it. Do this and your Windows will disable the delivery optimization every time you’re on a metered connection from now on.

Delivery optimization is a Windows feature that shoots up the download speed of your PC’s updates. A good feature in itself, it can, however, cause problems if you have a limited amount of data.
