Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL tip: Hey Cortana

For those of you who are new Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL owners, you have your very own personal digital assistant called Cortana. But did you know you can train your personal assistant to recognize your voice and wake it up just by calling its name?

This is a feature called Hey Cortana where you can easily wake up your phone and enable Cortana to take commands, requests, or actions. How cool is that? Here’s how you can get Hey Cortana set up on your Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL.

First, open up Cortana by tapping on the Cortana tile on your home screen (or go into your app list and tap on Cortana). Hit the menu button on the top-left of the screen and tap on Notebook. Then go into Settings.

From there, you will see an option to enable Hey Cortana, with a little description under the option warning you that if you enable Hey Cortana, you will use more battery. Under the Respond Best option, set Cortana to respond only to you and have her relearn your voice if necessary. You’re all set!

Simply say Hey Cortana when you have your Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL in your hands and you will hear a little sound indicating that Cortana is listening to you. Give her some commands!

Example commands: Hey Cortana, what’s the weather like? What’s on my schedule? Show me directions to [place], Set an alarm, Who is the CEO of Microsoft? What time is it in California?

For those of you who are not new to the Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL, have you been using this feature? How do you like it? Would you recommend it?
