During a an earnings conference call, Dell CFO Brian Gladden are just now upgrading to Windows 7, an operating system that is nearly four years old. Thanks to this, Dell has seen an increase in PC and hardware upgrades.

“Windows 8 has been from our standpoint, not necessarily the catalyst to drive accelerated growth that we had hoped it would be,” Dell CFO Brian Gladden stated during the conference call. It appears that corporate customers are switching from Windows XP or Windows Vista, to the nearly four year old Windows 7. Windows 8, on the other hand, isn’t really a part of the picture, according to Dell.

We all know that corporations are typically slower to adapt to the latest operating system. Windows 8 is expected to receive an update called Windows Blue (Windows 8.1) very soon, but that wont change the fact that corporations are barely “upgrading” over to an operating system that is four years old.

Beginning April 8th of 2014, Microsoft will no longer provide hotfixes, updates, or patches for Windows XP. For the longest time now, Windows XP has reigned as the top Windows operating system in terms of market share, but not anymore. Instead, the nearly four year old Windows 7 has reigned as the top Windows operating system.
