In an official Microsoft blog post announcing the new Lumia 925 smartphone from Nokia, the software giant dropped hints about the upcoming update to Windows Phone 8. This new update is set to roll out during the summer of this year.
Not only does this update bring “hundreds” of minor fixes and improvements, but the update also brings back support for the FM radio, thanks to consumer feedback. The new update also makes the Data Sense feature available for more carriers to offer as well as making it easier to select, download, and pin music in Xbox Music. There will also be improvement to the accuracy of song info and metadata.
The new update will also add support for CalDAV and CardDAV, which are syncing protocols that will ensure Windows Phone continues to work with Google’s services.
Microsoft released an update for Windows Phone 8, called “Portico” or “GDR1”, and that update brought new WiFi and messaging improvements. This new update, set for release during the summer, is called “GDR2” (according to ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley) and is not considered to be the rumored Windows Phone Blue.
