Sony is reportedly developing a new handheld, possibly for PS5 Remote Play

Insider Gaming has reported that Sony is making a new handheld device. It even has a code name, apparently: the Q Lite.

Don’t look for this new Sony handheld to be a true successor to the PlayStation Vita, however. Rather, the Q Lite will be a complimentary device utilizing Remote Play, according to the report, which emphasizes that the device will not incorporate cloud gaming as a feature.

Remote Play is an application that allows users to control the PlayStation 5 console remotely with a high-speed internet connection, from a different device at a different location.

The Q Lite will feature adaptive streaming up to 1080p at 60FPS, and will require a constant internet connection. The device will look much like a PS5 controller, albeit with an 8-inch LCD touchscreen in the center.

The Q Lite will be only one of a whole slate of new PS5-related hardware offerings coming soon, alongside a new detachable PS5 disc drive, the “Project Nomad” wireless earphones and “Project Voyager” wireless headset. And of course the PS5 Pro is slated to arrive sometime in 2024.
