The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that it will no longer be working with ReedPop on future E3 events. The two had entered into a partnership to relaunch the Electronic Entertainment Expo after it had gone on hiatus. Those efforts ended in failure however, as several major game publishers dropped out of the event.
The ESA also announced that E3 2024 will not be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center—the event’s traditional home. Note that the 2024 edition of the event itself has not been officially canceled at this point. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the ESA is planning “a complete reinvention of the E3 show for 2025.”
ESA president and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis said in a statement,
We appreciate ReedPop’s partnership over the past 14 months and support their ongoing efforts to bring industry and fans together through their various events.
While the reach of E3 remains unmatched in our industry, we are continuing to explore how we can evolve it to best serve the video game industry and are evaluating every aspect of the event, from format to location. We are committed to our role as a convenor for the industry and look forward to sharing news about E3 in the coming months.”
It will be interesting to see what new form the convention might take in the years to come.
