As originally reported by Bloomberg, an iOS developer by the name of Steve Moser has discovered code in the Netflix app that references playing games on TV, in addition to code that hints at the ability to use smart phones as game controllers. According to Moser one line of this code reads, “A game on your TV needs a controller to play. Do you want to use this phone as a game controller?”

All of this indicates that Netflix is very likely actively testing these features. If so, it wouldn’t come as any surprise as the streaming giant continues to steadily up the ante when it comes to Netflix Games. Last week Netflix revealed that 40 more titles are coming to Netflix Games in 2023, with many more beyond that in addition to the 55 presently available. This as Netflix continues to develop a forthcoming cloud gaming service which it announced at TechCrunch Disrupt 2022 back in October.
Netflix Games is quickly becoming the centerpiece of the company’s push to diversify its offerings and expand its subscriber base.
Currently, Netflix Games’ offerings are only available via the mobile app on Android and iOS; games are not playable on the Netflix TV app at present.
