Black Ops III makes $550 million opening weekend

According to a new report, Call of Duty Black Ops III made $550 million in just three days. Black Ops III outsold Call of Duty Ghosts and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare for the same time period. Activision didn’t provide specifics to either Ghosts or Advanced Warfare sale numbers, but the biggest Call of Duty sale yet was 2012’s Black Ops II which took home $500 million in just 24 hours.

GamesIndustry.biz reports that digital download sales are breaking records, too:

Activision also emphasized growth in download revenues for Black Ops 3, saying digital sales of the game on Xbox One and PS4 were nearly double the number posted by Advanced Warfare on those platforms in its first three days on sale.

Since the recent buyout of Kind Digital Entertainment, this is more good news for Activision. Here’s Activision CEO Bobby Kotick comments on Black Ops III:

“Call of Duty’s millions of passionate fans have shown us, yet again, the strength of their commitment to this enduring franchise. Call of Duty Black Ops III is the biggest entertainment launch this year in any medium, and bigger than any theatrical opening weekend ever.”

Kotick is certainly excited for Black Ops III sales last weekend and it doesn’t look like the Black Ops III gravy train is slowing down anytime soon. Hop on board!
