2022 hit Stray is apparently headed to Xbox consoles

Last year Annapurna Interactive released what is likely its most successful game to date: Stray. The game stars a stray cat and its drone companion, who are trying to escape the ruins of a cyberpunk city inhabited by robots and a mutant bacteria.

Stray was a runaway hit, becoming the highest-rated game of the year on Steam as well as one of the most downloaded games on PS4/5. Stray also became known for viral videos of cats watching the game, which can be seen on the Twitter account @CatsWatchStray.

Now it looks like Stray may finally be making its way to Xbox consoles after nearly a year of PlayStation exclusivity (not counting Windows PC). The game has received a rating from the ESRB for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S platforms. (The game was rated E10+, by the way). In its rating summary the ESRB says,

Players sometimes encounter parasitic blobs/mice-like bots that can attack and kill the cat. Players can access a UV light to defeat the mice-like bots, causing them to explode and emit splashes of colored liquid.

The description also notes that Stray features “animated blood” and “fantasy violence.”

Other than this ESRB listing, there has been nothing confirmed or even hinted at in terms of a release date. Stray was originally released on July 19, 2022 and with timed exclusivity deals often lasting for one year, that could be a possible release window for the Xbox version.
