Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 not available for all Windows Phone devices – onmsft.com

Windows phone 8. 1 update 1

Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 is rolling out for developers as we speak, but the surprising thing is: it’s not available for all Windows Phone devices out in the wild. While most of Lumia users managed to get the update, many users are reporting that some HTC devices — the HTC 8X/S — are unable to get the latest preview. Some of our readers also pointed this out in the previous posts.

The issue has been raised in Microsoft Answers community as well, where one of the moderators posted a quick answer to this issue. He didn’t specifically mentioned HTC devices, but posted an extract from the Preview Wiki which points to the issue faced by HTC users. It says that if the device is compatible, but isn’t getting the update, it’s because the device requires an update from the OEM or the carrier to fix an “identified” problem.

It says, “If your device is enabled for the update but no new version is made available to you:  There are a small set of devices for which we aren’t offering the latest build of the Developer Preview program due to an identified problem that requires mobile operator or OEM driver updates.  These will be offered when the official update for your phone is available.”

It’s not just the HTC 8X/8S; there could be other devices which are unable to get the update. The bad news is that some users may have to wait a little longer before they can get the taste of the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, either when it releases for the public, or when their OEM releases the pre-requisite update for it. Did you try the latest update? Sound off in the comments below, and don’t forget to mention the device you’re rocking.
