Nvidia rolls out updated GeForce drivers for Windows 10 after Windows Update fiasco

You may recall yesterday that Windows 10 Update was causing some issues for people with Nvidia graphics cards. The Nvidia drivers that Windows was automatically installing were causing multi-monitor setups to break and screens to flicker amongst other things. Understandably, many users weren’t happy with the problems it caused.

In fairness, Microsoft was quick to act and today it released package KB3073930 which allows you to “prevent the problematic driver or update from reinstalling automatically the next time Windows Updates are installed.”

Nvidia also promised that it would release new drivers to fix the issue and today, they have done so. If you head over to Windows Update right now, the corrected graphics drivers will install on your system. Nvidia plans to roll out driver version 353.62 on their website (it’s not there at the time of this post), so stay tuned if you rather not install these drivers from Windows Update.

The Windows 10 strategy of automatic updates is excellent when it works well but as illustrated with this Nvidia driver issue, it can quickly go wrong. Hopefully this issue was just a pre-release speed bump and a contingency plan is in place to stop it from happening in the future.
