As most of you are well aware by now, Microsoft is expected to roll out another build of Windows 10 in January of next year. In fact, reported recently that Microsoft will likely release a Consumer Preview build by the end of January.
Now a new report from Mary Jo Foley, who is very credible in the field of Microsoft news, claims that Microsoft plans to roll out the “January Technical Preview (JTP)” in January, along with support for Continuum (watch our hands on demo of an early version) and Cortana. Microsoft will then roll out the February Technical Preview (FTP) and March Technical Preview (MTP), and so forth.
“The coming JTP is expected to include support for Continuum, a feature that will allow users with two-in-one devices to more easily transition modes when connecting and disconnecting keyboards. It also may be the first build where Microsoft turns on Cortana integration in Windows 10,” Mary Jo Foley explains. She pretty much confirms what WinBeta also revealed back in November.
While we sit here eagerly awaiting the Consumer Preview build to land in January, Microsoft may not even refer to it that way. “But the next update to the Technical Preview will be known as the January Technical Preview (JTP), rather than the consumer preview, sources say. It will be followed by a February Tech Preview, a March Tech Preview, etc.,” Foley adds.
Microsoft is also expected to unveil Windows 10 for smartphones, likely around January 20th or January 21st during a private press event in Redmond, Washington. Windows 10 for smartphones is rumored to feature support for ARM based processors on smartphones and tablets, as well as smaller, lower-end smartphones powered by Intel processors. Again, she pretty much confirms what WinBeta also revealed back in November regarding Windows 10 for smartphones.
Microsoft is also expected to show off progress with Windows 10 and you can also expect to hear about the next version of Windows Server during that time too. 2015 is going to be an exciting year for Windows 10, and we are definitely looking forward to it.
