It’s been a week full of exciting Windows 10 news. Let’s take this time to look back in a piece we like to call “Windows 10 news recap.” At the start of the week, we talked about Windows 10 and the supposed “yearly subscription fee.” Windows 10 will not have an annual fee. Windows 10 will not charge you a yearly subscription after the free-for-one-year upgrade offer expires. You can read more about this here.
Microsoft released an update to fix the taskbar flyout bug in Windows 10 Insider Preview build 10130. The company also released several security updates and a fix for a few top issues. As a result, Microsoft rolled out build 10130 to the Slow ring, accompanied with these fixes. Microsoft continues to improve the Windows 10 Insider Preview with each update, gradually building towards the eventual stable and bug-free proper release in July.
Unfortunately for Surface 3 owners, we learned this past week that Windows 10 build 10130 will not work on the Surface 3, due to a bug that is unique to Intel’s Cherry Trail chipset. For those that did not know, Intel’s Cherry Trail line of Atom processing chips are featured in Microsoft’s latest tablet, the Surface 3.
Windows Insiders have spoken — they want extra large size for tiles, and opacity/blue effect sliders for themes. Make it happen Microsoft!

Microsoft Edge branding is already present in internal builds of Windows 10 and will be coming to insider builds in the relatively near future. Speaking of Microsoft Edge, have you seen this screenshot of the new dark mode?
Microsoft is now offering the free upgrade to Windows 10 during the Windows 8.1 setup process, making it easier than ever for Windows 8.1 users to reserve their free upgrade. But don’t worry if you are a Windows 10 Insider Preview participant — you don’t need to reserve your free upgrade.
Microsoft rolled out an update to the Mail and Calendar apps for Windows 10, adding various user interface refinements.
PC gamers will be able to play the first DirectX 12 game on Windows 10 with an alpha build of “Ashes of Singularity,” a next generation RTS (real-time strategy game) set in a sci-fi universe.
