Welcome back to our weekly Windows 10 Mobile news recap series, where we go over the top stories of the past week in the world of Microsoft’s mobile operating system. Let’s get started.
Huge new update to Photos app
The Photos app got a big update recently across all devices, and it made the app almost entirely different. The update brought an updated interface to the app, which redesigned it to navigate much better. You can now also do a lot more with the editing tool, and Windows Ink support has been added to let you draw on photos and play back your drawings.
Authenticator app hits general availability
The Authenticator app, which launched back in June, has entered general availability for Windows 10 Mobile users. The app fully released on Android and iOS back in August, but technical issues made it so that the release on Windows 10 Mobile had to be delayed. Those bugs have since been worked out, and the app is now available to anyone on Windows 10 Mobile. If you have the Insider version installed already, the new app will come as an update with no extra effort on your part.
Third party alarm apps will break through Quiet Hours
Due to popular demand, third-party apps will now be able to break through Quiet Hours in order to sound alarms. Just like the first-party alarm app goes off regardless of Quiet Hours, all third party alarm apps will now be able to go off. The feature was requested by multiple users through Feedback, and its implementation marks a positive point in Microsoft’s user-friendly development approach.
“Feedback” replaced with “Suggest change” in Microsoft Maps for Insiders
If you’re an Insider that wants to offer a bit more to the development of Microsoft Maps, the newest changes to the app might scratch that itch. The previous “Feedback” option has been replaced with “Suggest change,” which opens up the three options of “A place is missing,” “The map isn’t accurate,” or “I have other feedback.” This gives Insiders a bit more agency when they help to improve Maps, and lets them add in more landmarks and other notable locations.
