Following the release of SQL Server 2014 earlier last year, Microsoft has now released the latest update to its service, SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 1.
SQL Server 2014 Server Pack 1 brings with it a number of upgrades and improvements, however mostly these are bug fixes and stability improvements. These come following user feedback regarding the original product, as such the update addresses most of the commonly reported user issues, including fixes that previously came in SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2.
A main focus for improvement has been column store performance when batch mode operators spill over to disk, and in buffer pool SSD configuration, in which users now have the ability to do instant initialization of the buffer pool extension file.
This is a fairly routine upgrade that will no doubt come as something of a relief to users, who are encouraged to continue submitting their feedback to Microsoft in order to see the service continually improved as time goes by.
