Microsoft is already rolling out the latest Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 for Lumia devices, but the carrier-branded variants usually get the update late. If you’re rocking an O2 Lumia 930, there’s a bit of good news for you. The carrier announced it’s now releasing the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 for the handset, purchased from O2 direct. The news was confirmed by an O2 forums social media team member in response to a question.
“We’re fully expecting the GDR1 update for the Lumia 930 to go live this week – as early as this evening, no less. Please keep your eyes out for any notifications and if you’re running an O2 branded 930 purchased from O2 direct, feel free to manually check for updates too,” said O2’s social media team member of the carrier forums.
Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 comes with plethora of improvements and enhancements on board. Not to mention that it also comes with Microsoft’s personal assistant Cortana for the UK, along with the ability to create folders on the Start screen — Microsoft calls it Live Folders where you can drag a tile over the other to create a folder consisting of multiple apps. Furthermore, it also introduces Apps Corner, which allows users to display apps in a sandbox mode for certain scenarios. The update is rolling out as we speak so make sure you keep an eye on the action center for an update notification. Don’t panic if it’s not there yet, the update process is gradual and can take a few days to complete. So sit in tight, or you can manually check for the update by heading over to Settings > Phone Update.
