Despite news that Nokia was intending to focus HERE maps development away from Windows Phone and onto other platforms, it seems that development for Windows Phone will indeed continue, if only in a limited capacity.

\

This latest update delivers a number of significant features to the popular mapping platform, echoing HERE’s commitment to spreading its brand globally. Cyprus, Mayotte and Zimbabwe have all had their maps upgraded to ‘navigable status’, meaning that users in these countries can now enjoy free turn-by-turn directions as one would find on a full sat-nav.

There has also been a number of significant improvements to the quality of maps offered across a number of African countries, particularly in the north-east of the continent in countries such as Eritrea and Somalia. Water features have also been a major focus for improvement, more lakes are now featured, and the representation of rivers has been improved. Public transit has also seen a major upgrade, with transit lines now more realistically interpreted for users.

\

Given that Microsoft’s Bing Maps are powered by HERE, these updates will also find their way to this app as well. Users can update via the listing on the Windows Phone Store.
