According to a new survey of healthcare IT professionals, Microsft’s cloud platforms for healthcare organizations are more popular than Google and Amazon’s offerings.

The survey was reported by Healthcare IT News. The survey itself was conducted by SADA Systems, a cloud solutions provider. SADA Systems surveyed over 300 healthcare IT professionals and found that Microsoft has a 42% marketshare. Google came in second at 29% and Amazon was just slightly behind Google at 27% marketshare.

The survey also asked respondents about their general opinions regarding cloud infrastructures in healthcare. Some of the results included:

Fifty-six percent of respondents said cloud-based apps are improving patient satisfaction, while 55 percent said these tools were leading to better treatment. Another 54 percent believe cloud apps and tools used by their organizations are resulting in faster care, and 64 percent said they believe cloud technologies are helping their organizations improve productivity and efficiency for both staff and patients.

While the survey helps demonstrate that healthcare IT pros clearly feel cloud-based infrastructures are more cost-effective than traditional IT infrastructures, the survey doesn’t reveal too much as to why or how Microsoft has climbed to the top in marketshare. However, as we’ve reported before, Microsoft has been amassing certifications for their data storage techniques and protocols in order to be compliant with leading industry and government standards. This includes health care certifications for HIPPA/HITECH compliance.
