Microsoft has just released the monthly “Patch Tuesday” updates for all supported versions of Windows 10. If you have already received the May 2019 Update on your PC, you’ll get the build 18362.239 (KB4507453) today which brings the following improvements and fixes:
- Addresses an issue that may cause BitLocker to go into recovery mode if BitLocker is being provisioned at the same time as updates are being installed.
- Addresses an issue that may cause Mixed Reality users to see a tilted world after connecting their headsets.
- Addresses visual quality issues some users may have seen with Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) headsets and Steam®VR content.
- Security updates to Windows Wireless Networking, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Server, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Kernel, Microsoft HoloLens, Internet Explorer, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Virtualization, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Microsoft Edge, and Windows Cryptography.
The release notes mention three known issues related to Windows Sandbox, the Remote Access Connection Manager, and the Window-Eyes screen reader app. Microsoft intends to fix all of them in an upcoming release.
For those of you still on the October 2018 Update, the build 17763.615 (KB4507469) is now available for you with the following fixes:
- Addresses an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when an application uses the CameraCaptureUI API.
- Addresses an issue that may cause BitLocker to go into recovery mode if BitLocker is being provisioned at the same time as updates are being installed.
- Security updates to Windows Server, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Graphics Component, Internet Explorer, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Virtualization, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Kernel, Microsoft Edge, Windows Cryptography, and Windows Fundamentals.
This update also comes with a couple of known issues, and Microsoft says that it’s investigating reports that a small number of devices may startup to a black screen during the first logon after installing updates. In the meantime, the workaround is to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then select the Power button to restart your PC.
If you’re still on the older Windows 10 April 2018 Update, the build 17134.885 (KB4507435) is now available with the following fixes:
- Addresses an issue that may cause BitLocker to go into recovery mode if BitLocker is being provisioned at the same time as updates are being installed.
- Security updates to Windows Wireless Networking, Windows Server, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Kernel, Internet Explorer, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Virtualization, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Edge, Windows Cryptography, and Windows Fundamentals.
Microsoft says that this build may have the same black screen issue mentioned in the release notes for the build 17763.615 for the October 2018 Update, and you can use the same workaround to mitigate it. Because the April 2018 Update will reach end of service on November 12, 2019 for Home and Pro Editions, we also remind you that Microsoft has now started to automatically update devices running the April 2018 Update and earlier versions to the latest feature update available for these devices.
For devices running Windows 10 Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise, there are new Patch Updates for the versions 1709, 1703, 1607, and 1507 of Windows 10. That’s it for this month’s Patch Tuesday updates, but there’s also some news for Windows Insiders today. ISOs for the 20H1 build 18932 are now available, and Microsoft also released Windows Server vNext Preview build 18392 today.
