The Lumia Denim firmware update that is now rolling out to Lumia devices globally, brings along a number of exciting new features. Of those features are new camera improvements, Start Screen folder support, and hands-free Cortana activation via the new ‘Hey Cortana’ command.

While we’re yet to see what the new 4K recording capabilities look like, we do have some images and video of the new ‘Hey Cortana’ feature courtesy of MSFTPlace. As expected, users can now get Cortana to do their bidding by simply saying ‘Hey Cortana’ – it works even when the device is locked. Check out the video below to see exactly how it functions.

Screenshots were also provided of the ‘Hey Cortana’ optional set up process, that will train the phone to recognize a user’s voice, thus preventing others from being able to activate the personal assistant. Although, we reckon that this can cause issues if you sound like death when you first wake up in the morning and try to activate her.

The ‘Hey Cortana’ feature will seemingly only be available to Lumia devices with Snapdragon 800-series processors and SensorCore technology. That comes down to the Lumia 1520 and 930 (including the ICON).
