Microsoft pushing out new mobile and PC builds, on the same day

Yesterday, Gabe Aul teased Windows Insider that today Microsoft would do something they had never done before with the next Insider builds. Gabe’s vague tweet left many Insiders speculating and scratching their heads last night as to what has ‘never been done before’, but now we have an answer.

We are working on doing something we’ve never done before with new builds…but not today.

— Gabriel Aul (@GabeAul) October 28, 2015

This will be the first time Microsoft has released both a Mobile build and a PC build to the Windows Insider Fast ring on the same day. Microsoft released Windows 10 Mobile build 10581 earlier this morning and will soon release a PC build later this afternoon. It is a first for Microsoft to release Fast ring builds for both PC and Mobile simultaneously. The PC build has yet to release, and it is unknown if any specific new features will be unveiled with this strategy of testing two builds on the same day.

@GabeAul So now for the “thing we’ve never done before” that I tweeted about yesterday: New PC build will ALSO be out today. This afternoon!

— Gabriel Aul (@GabeAul) October 29, 2015

The Mobile build released today comes with a few added features like improved photo sharing through third-party apps and re-enables the passive listening feature “Hey Cortana” to work on the Lumia 930, the Lumia Icon, and 1520. There are also improvements to battery life, and those looking to upgrade to 10581 aren’t required to first flash their phone back to Windows 8.1.

Stay tuned to WinBeta as we await Windows 10 Build 10576 to go live on the Fast ring later this afternoon.
