Sony has confirmed another round of PlayStation hardware price increases, with updated recommended retail prices for the PS5 lineup and PlayStation Portal set to take effect on April 2, 2026, as the company points to ongoing global economic pressure as the reason behind the change while acknowledging that the move impacts its user base.
The new pricing applies across major regions including the U.S., Europe, the U.K., and Japan, and this time the increase affects all major PlayStation hardware products, including the standard PS5, Digital Edition, PS5 Pro, and the PlayStation Portal remote player, which now costs more across every listed market.
New PS5 Prices Across Regions
In the U.S., the standard PS5 now costs $649.99, while the Digital Edition rises to $599.99, and the PS5 Pro reaches $899.99, with the PlayStation Portal priced at $249.99, and similar adjustments appear in Europe and the U.K. with consistent upward changes across the lineup.
Sony Interactive Entertainment stated that these changes follow a careful evaluation of the current market conditions and are necessary to maintain product quality and continued innovation across its gaming ecosystem.
Price Comparison Table

|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | $549.99 | $649.99 | +$100 | +18.18% |

This is not the first increase, as Sony had already raised PS5 prices in August 2025 and made region-specific adjustments earlier in April 2025, which shows a continued trend of rising console costs over the past year.
Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, said the company understands that price changes affect its community but added that the decision helps ensure it continues delivering high-quality gaming experiences worldwide, as the company adjusts to broader economic conditions.
