Free-to-play fighting game MultiVersus will be delisted from storefronts and taken offline after the close of its open beta on June 25th. The announcement was made on the MultiVersus official site.
What exactly does this all mean for fans of the game? For one, MultiVersus will be removed from digital storefronts beginning April 4, meaning new players will not be able to download the game. Those who already have will still be able to able to play and purchase in-game content. The season 2 Battle Pass will be extended through the close of the open beta period, after which the game’s server will be shut down and only offline modes will be accessible.
No refunds are being offered on the part of Warner Bros. Games. As quoted in the Open Beta Update’s FAQ section in the link above,
This announcement does not change any current refund policies or terms offered by the storefront(s) from which Founder’s Packs or Gleamium bundles were purchased. For more information, please visit the customer support pages for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Epic Games. Additionally, refunds are not available as a result of the Open Beta closure. However, all progress and previously earned or purchased content will carry over when MultiVersus returns in early 2024.
Warner Bros. Games states that it is targeting early 2024 for the relaunch of MultiVersus. The game was a breakout sensation when it launched, beating out free-to-play titans like Fortnite in terms of daily player count for a time, reaching the 20 million player count the month following its release. However, as content and support dried up following the season 2 launch, the player count has rapidly dwindled. Hopefully next year’s relaunch can set the game right again.
