Microsoft has announced the latest Windows update, scheduled for the official launch next Patch Tuesday. The latest update, KB5028245, is specifically designed for Windows 11 and aims to fix several issues while also bringing improvements to the operating system.

One of the key highlights of this cumulative update is the resolution of a problem affecting virtual private networks (VPN). Users may have experienced excessive Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) requests to the network gateway when using VPN on a wireless mesh network that employs an aggressive throttling algorithm. This issue led to poor network performance, and Microsoft has worked diligently to rectify it with this update.

Additionally, the KB5028245 update addresses an issue where certain display and audio devices were found missing after the system resumed from sleep. This problem should now be resolved, providing a more seamless user experience.

Highlights of the KB5028245 Update

  • VPN Issue Resolution: The update addresses the VPN-related ARP requests problem on wireless mesh networks, leading to enhanced network performance.
  • Display and Audio Device Fix: Certain display and audio devices that disappeared after resuming from sleep will now be recognized and function correctly.

Improvements in the KB5028245 Update

  • Handwriting Software Input Panel (SIP) Enhancements: The Handwriting Software Input Panel, Handwriting Engine, and Handwriting Embedded Inking Control now support GB18030-2022 conformance level 2, meeting the level 3 requirements.
  • Windows Push Notification Services (WNS) Reliability: The connection between the client and the WNS server is now more reliable, ensuring better notification services.
  • UI Automation and Caching Mode Fix: An issue affecting UI Automation and caching mode has been resolved.
  • Windows Notification Platform Fix: The Windows Notification Platform will now correctly send notifications from applications.
  • Hybrid Joined Device Fix: Hybrid joined devices can now be signed into even when not connected to the internet, specifically when using Windows Hello for Business PIN or biometric credentials in a cloud trust deployment scenario.
  • Windows Autopilot Profile Improvements: Downloading the Windows Autopilot policy is now more resilient, with increased retry attempts to help when network connections are not fully initialized.
  • Win32 and UWP App Fix: Certain Win32 and Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps will no longer close when devices enter Modern Standby, which could occur due to certain Bluetooth Phone Link features being turned on.
  • Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Repository Fix: Installation errors due to WMI repository issues have been resolved.
  • L2 Cache Reporting Fix: Inconsistent reporting of L2 cache on certain CPUs has been corrected.
  • Event Forwarding Subscriptions Improvement: Unnecessary forwarding of events when adding an Event Channel to the subscription has been addressed.
  • Verdana Pro Font Family Enhancement: Hinting for some letters of the Verdana Pro font family has been enhanced.
  • User Mode Printer Driver Fix: Unexpected unloading of user mode printer drivers when printing from multiple print queues to the same printer driver has been resolved.
  • Game-Related Issue Fix: TDR errors that might occur when playing games have been addressed.
  • XAML Text Edit Control Fix: XAML text edit controls can now be edited again after becoming read-only when using the new Microsoft Input Method Editor for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
  • Narrator Enhancement: Narrator will now announce the “Change product key” label.
  • Defender Firewall Profile Fix: The Defender Firewall Profile will now automatically switch from a trusted LAN to a public network as intended.
  • Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA) Update: COSA profiles have been updated to ensure accuracy.
  • IPsec Deadlock Fix: A deadlock issue in Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) that caused servers to stop responding has been resolved for both virtual and physical servers.
  • MPSSV Service Fix: The issue causing systems to restart repeatedly with a stop error code of 0xEF has been resolved.
  • Clustered Shared Volume (CSV) Issue Fix: CSV should now come online without any problems after enabling BitLocker and local CSV managed protectors, even after recent BitLocker key rotations.
  • BitLocker on Large Sector Size Storage Fix: Windows will no longer fail when using BitLocker on storage media with a large sector size.
  • Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist Update: The Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist has been updated to protect against Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks.
  • Fastfat File System Driver Fix: The fastfat file system driver should no longer stop responding due to a race condition.
  • Resilient File System (ReFS) Issue Fix: Options like salvage and leak will now work correctly on ReFS volumes when using refsutil.exe.
  • I/O over SMB Issue Fix: I/O over Server Message Block (SMB) should no longer fail when LZ77+Huffman compression algorithm is used.

As usual, if you have installed earlier updates, only the new updates in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device. Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update, ensuring a smoother experience for Windows 11 users after installing KB5028245.
